Most boxing fans know the bulk of the very best fight-action is south of 168.  But let's face it, the Heavies drive the sport and carry the banner for the sport in the mind of the general public.

Who are the best of the today's Biggies?  Is there a premeir Heavy that captures or even attracts the attention and stimulates the destructive imagination of the casual fan?

Boxing is probably most popular when the top heavyweight is a man we all can imagine kicking the crap out of most anyone else.  When you hear the title Heavyweight Champion of the World an image and probably a personality come to mind.  Whether his name is Ali, Liston, Louis, Holmes, Tyson, or Jack Dempsey the image is undoubtedly one of fistic supremacy, an in-ring conqueror of men that blackens eyes, busts noses and turns out the lights.

But do we have a guy like that in the unlimited weight class today?  Is there someone who might become that dominant unifying force for the Heavies out there on the horizon?

Which heavyweight is best today and more importantly, perhaps, which one is the Can't-Miss-Fighter of the division?  If there isn't anyone you can name, why not?  What can we hope to do about it?  What happened, where did these guys go?

Ok I didn't pick Eddie Chambers,  I know it was the 4th and I should be deported for not picking the American.  I thought Dimitrenko's reach would be an advantage and thought he would get home field advantage.  Some times its good to be wrong, but what's next for Chambers?  I would pick David Haye, W. Klitschko, or Chagaev.

I think Povetkin might be the next big name in the heavyweight pecking order. I dont think he will be ready in time to face either of the Klitchkos, but I believe he is the heir-apparent. Unfortunate, I know, as it will take an American heavy to bring the division back to where it was 15-20 years ago and in turn bring boxing itself back to prominence in the sports world. But as a huge Teddy Atlas fan, I can find something to root for in this guy until we do get a great American hope, because frankly, we got nothing in this weight class for the near future.

Povetkin is promising and i'm looking forward to seeing what Atlas has done with him too.  I gotta say right now I'm very impressed with Tomas Adamek.  Although i don't think the Michael Grant fight--his next opponent--will prove much of anything except he can beat a very large man.

Gotta agree with you about Adamek. I didn't think his power would carry over to the heavyweight div but he has been very impressive. I loved him to beat Arreola back in April but he showed a great beard against one of the biggest punchers in the division which surprised me. I'd love to see him fight Haye at some point in the near future, I think that could be war if TA can counter Hayes rangeiness and stay busy once he gets in.

And Haye-Adamek might be the most competitive fight in the division.  i'd like to think Haye has a chance against the klitschkos but i'm not convinced yet.  maybe vitali but not wladimir.  it's very hard to get near wlad.
